The moving part is generally the easy part, it’s the preparation of the move that can be daunting.
Moving can be stressful, and there are so many things to remember, it is often easy to forget what the most important things are to do. That’s why we suggest making lists, and writing down everything you need to remember. There’s the admin stuff like setting up mail forwarding, changing of your utility addresses for your home security, telephone bills, internet providers etc. Then there is the challenge of acquiring your packing supplies and last but not least, the actual move itself.
The move is generally the easy part, most of your time will be consumed with packing and unpacking. But make sure you prepare for this well. It’s a detailed process but it will make your move a little simpler and a lot less stressful!
BEFORE YOU MOVE:
Make a list of all the utilities you’re responsible for and start making the transfers, or providing any notice that is required should you no longer require that service. Try and do this as soon as you know you are moving, as service providers are generally not available to make a change the day before / the day of the move.
FINDING PACKING SUPPLIES:
Most moving companies, such as Master Movers, can provide you with all the supplies you require in order to make the move seamless. Although we try and save you as much money as possible, there are other ways you could get boxes for free.
Visit retailers that receive a lot of shipments and deliveries, and your best bet would more than likely be furniture stores. They may be able to provide you with a variety of boxes in different shapes and sizes. Call them up at least a week in advance of when you plan to start packing so they can keep them aside as disposal of these could be a daily exercise in larger retailers.
If you are moving into a new home, you might have the opportunity to install a dual-flush toilet that will save a lot of water depending on the type of ‘flush’ needed. If that’s not an option, you can use the bucket option. Use the water collected in the shower to fill the tank with just enough needed for a flush.
TOOLS TO HAVE ON HAND:
Included in your packing supplies, we suggest you have a couple of handy tools available. This doesn’t have to be an expensive purchase, just one that could save you time and frustration during packing / unpacking. Tools like a cutter for wires, allen keys to dismantle beds / anything with a socket, pair of sharp scissors / box cutter and a set of screwdrivers will always come in handy.
