While moving carries many risks, a move can do great things for your business. Once you have chosen your new location, the move is the next bridge you need to cross. Here are 6 useful ways to lessen the impact on your business.

1. Donate office equipment and office items you don’t need.

This will be a great time to get rid of old phones, copiers, printers, PC’s and office furniture that you no longer want or need.Master movers can assist in transporting the donated items to a charity of your choice.

2. Start packing early.

Its never good to wait until the last minute to pack. Start packing items you do not use regularly as soon as possible. Don’t underestimate the time it takes to pack up a small business.

3. When hiring a professional moving company like us (AMOSA) call ahead of time.

A moving company can make your life a lot easier, If you are planning on hiring a mover, call at least one to two months in advance to make sure they have an opening to help you the day you need to move.

4. Label and number your boxes.

Make sure to mark your boxes on the tops and sides so you can find items more easily if you need to unpack something before or immediately after you moved. Place fragile labels on the boxes carrying your delicate items. Place these boxes in a separate area so movers can load them last and offload them first.

5. Individually pack computers and computer monitors.

Computer monitors can damage during a move. They should be wrapped individually in thick moving blankets or bubble wrap to protect them.

6. Take inventory.

a) Inventory each space of your office separately. Make sure to record everything in the space before moving on to the next.

b) Document all important details about your office equipment.

Include several columns in your written inventory, such as:

  • Current condition
  • Market value
  • Make, model, serial number
  • If you still have the receipt and warranty paperwork
  • What space it’s being moved from
  • What new space you would like it to be placed in

c) Take photos to back up your written inventory.

d) Take pictures of all the items your inventory as soon as you inventory them.

e) Double-check all items again and make sure you did not miss anything.

f) Always back up your physical inventory by recording the information in a digital moving inventory.
