You just bought a new home and start planning for the big move. But not so fast! Before you move into your new house there are a few things that need to happen first. These 4 tips will give some good insight into what you should plan to do before and as soon as you move into your newly purchased home.
1. New Locks / Keys
Getting new locks installed for all the entrances to your house is a good idea. You bought a house from a stranger and although they left you the keys, they might still have a spare or had a copy made.
2. Clean your new home
I think we can all agree that there is nothing worse than moving into a dirty home. Before unpacking your belongings and hanging curtains do a thorough spring clean of your new house, a clean home before you start unpacking is the best. Consider hiring a cleaning company to do this for you, this will save you a lot of time and effort.
3. Get your roof, gutter and chimney cleaned
If your home has a fireplace get your chimneys cleaned professionally. If you notice any moss on your roof get it cleaned or clean it with a high-pressure hose immediately. You do not want problems with your insurance company later on. Gutter cleaning should be done twice a year to ensure proper drainage in fall and spring.
4. Paint the Walls
This might seem like an unnecessary extra task that you just don’t have the energy for. However, painting the walls of your new property can make it feel more like home. Tackle this task before you start unloading boxes and moving all your furniture. Think about getting a professional to help you.
